Colorado Dad Struggles to Regain Custody of Daughters

Dennis Burns of Aspen, Colorado was awarded by the courts the position of “primary residential parent” of his 2 daughters after his divorce with Ana Alianelli. Early in the divorce process, Alianelli claimed she was an abused wife and for that reason needed to have sole custody and move to her original homeland of Argentina. The judge found no evidence of abuse and denied her request to move with her children. 3 weeks later Alianelli abducted her children and have been living in Argentina since 2009.

The US State Department has demanded the immediate return of the children to Burns and even though both the US and Argentina are countries that have signed The Hauge Convention to prevent parental abduction of their children, the legal process for Burns still drags on. A Buenos Aires court ruled to return the children to Colorado, Alianelli appealed the decision and will now be heard by a Supreme Court in Argentina.

Hopefully Burns sees a happy ending but as it stands now, his house has been foreclosed and he has had to declare bankruptcy.
